Media Vocabulary

Here is a list of media vocabulary and what each are used for:

Puffs: These are shapes which are usually coloured and with text that are used for promotion on magazine or leaflet covers.

Buzz Words: "Free", "Exclusive", these two terms are examples of buzz words.

Strapline: A strapline is a banner with text or a slogan which stands out on the magazine cover.

Copy: A copy in the magazine is the main story of the magazine.

Anchorage Text: This is text which helps to pin down the meaning of an image.

Pug: Pug or 'ears' of the page are usually at the top of the page either on the top-left or top-right. They are used to give the price, a logo or promoting things for the magazine itself, an example of this is 'Free Posters'.

Motto: A phrase which is memorable to a brand.

Headline: A headline is the main title of the article.
