Deyes Newsletter Improved Version
Justification for my choices
I chose a black and white colour scheme with is linked to the sixth form's uniform. The uniform is black shoes, black pants, black jumper, black tie and a white shirt. This is the reason for my colour scheme and why I have used a black and white house style. My main image is a student of the school in his uniform. I chose this image because in the background is a building from the sixth form and the student is in his uniform. This is appropriate because it is a sixth form magazine. Deyes is a specialist science school. This is the reason why I have included a science logo on my cover. Also I have included a headline with a lexical choice of school, "Excellent winter exam results once again!" This shows the reader what the main story is about. The reason I have included the school's logo is because this is a school/college magazine. The reason I have included a puff with the text, "Winter edition!" is because it is a magazine that is published in the winter.

Feminist Theory and Richard Dyer's Theory
Feminist Theory
Laura Mulvey is a feminism theorist who wrote an article that she believed woman in Hollywood Films were a figure of desire and men were more dominant in the roles they played as were the spectators. In the time and era of classical Hollywood Films the audience of the film were encouraged to identify the protagonist of the film which usually was men in Hollywood Films. Feminist theory will be included within my music and school magazine using some of the theories that Laura Mulvey believed in.

Voyeuristic – seeing woman as ‘whores’
Fetishistic – seeing woman as ‘madonnas’
These terms are
two modes of ‘male gaze’ of the time of classical Hollywood Films which Laura
Mulvey suggested in her theories.
Male Gaze –
this is seen in films to put woman into perspective of a heterosexual man. For example
when a woman’s curves seem to linger in scenes of the film.
Richard Dyer's Star Theory
Richard Dyer has a Star Theory that the media create all 'Stars'. This gets a person's name well and truly known to media institutions and this can become critical to their careers.
Paradox: A Paradox is the idea that two things go together but they shouldn't really fit together.
Incoherence: An Incoherence is when you buy a certain artists products, for instance, CDs, posters, clothes etc.

Rule Of Thirds
The Rule of Thirds is a guideline that divides an image into 9 equal segments using 2 horizontal and 2 vertical lines. It is important that certain elements are placed on the lines. The rule of thirds is applied by aligning a subject with the guidelines and intersection points. The subject will be placed on the horizon, top or bottom line. This allows linear features in the image to flow one section to another. The main reason that the rule of thirds is used is so the horizon is prevented from dividing and splitting the image in half. This is also used to hide the horizon line. I will try to use the rule of thirds in my photography.

Quantitative and Qualitative Research
For my media coursework in my music magazine questionnaire I will gather information from quantitative and qualitative research, this will include qualitative questions that will need the audience to go into detail and depth in order for them to complete the question and give an answer. On the other hand the audience will have to complete quantitative questions which are in the style of a tick box or bullet points, these type of questions to not require the audience to not go into as much detail as qualitative questions. When writing questionnaires qualitative research is probably the best answer, this is simply because you are getting to read what the interviewee has said and not your guessing their answers via a tick box. This gives the creator of the survey a chance to read people's opinions and gives me better feedback from my surveys.
Cohen's Morel Panic
Cohen's Morel Panic is believed to be a social group or the media that come across as a threat to society. This also involves the controlling of folk devils in society.
Concern: the behaviour of a particular group represented as having threat.
Volatility: short - lived. Panics erupt dramatically but are difficult to sustain and there will be a negative consequence for the rest of us.
Hostility: "Folk Devils" are constructed to create a clear divide between "them" and "us".
Consensus: widespread acceptance of the threat posed by this group. Not necessarily reflecting national concern, but the campaigner will be very vocal whilst the opposition will be weak and disorganised.
Disproportionality: wild exaggeration of evidence. Not only the number of people involved but also the scale of the problem.
